Tasting Notes

Pale salmon with mauve hues. The nose displays notes of citrus and ripe berries. The palate flows through the aromatics with a rich and spicy mouthfeel balance by a saline minerality.
Varieties

Cinsaut – Grenache blends are made up of two important grape varieties from southern France and are vinified as either red or rosé wines. Grenache is herbaceous and spicy, with plenty of berry fruit flavours, in particular raspberry. It has ample tannins and, usually, reasonably high alcohol, particularly as it is often grown in hot environments. Cinsaut, on the other hand, lacks structure, colour and tannin, and is usually employed to give an aromatic lift to the wine. These blends are permitted in a wide range of appellations in southern France, from Châteauneuf-du-Pape to the simple IGP wines of the area. Perhaps the blend’s most important expression is in the fresh, fruit-driven rosé wines of the Cotes de Provence appellation in southeastern France.
Region

La Londe is a tiny sub appellation of the Côtes de Provence, the core appellation of the Provence wine region in the far southeast of France. Similar to other areas of Provence, 75% of La Londe wine is rosé, with the remainder being entirely red. White wines produced in the area are sold under the general Côtes de Provence title. Located on the Mediterranean coast just east of Toulon, the La Londe vineyards are spread between the communes of Hyères and La Londe-les Maures itself, as well as some specific areas of Bormes-les-Mimosas and La Crau. The best sites are situated on the southeast facing slopes of the southern Massif des Maures hills. Wine has been made here for over 2600 years, making Provence the oldest wine producing region of France.
Vineyard

In La Londe-les-Maures, on the coast between Toulon and St Tropez, in the Côtes de Provence wine region, Château Les Valentines extends over 50 hectares of schist where grapevines, pine forests and garrigue scrubland enjoy full southern exposure. Wines are made with estate grown fruit from 40 year old vines. The old, deep-rooted vines allow the plants to grow exceptional, concentrated fruit in ideal conditions balanced by the cool Mistral winds. La Londe AOC is considered the “Grand Cru” site for rosé wine in France.
